The pole and I met in 2011 and we fell in love I plan on using pole dancing to stay fit and sexy for a very long time. I have been a vegetarian since 2004, and I am very passionate about eating right and staying healthy. I attend the University of Nevada-Las Vegas, and I am currently earning my Bachelor's degree in Kinesiology.

Cody Nicholson

I started dancing in high school in 2004.  I studied under Nanette DeRemer during this time, which gave me my background in ballet, jazz and lyrical/modern dance.  As well, I performed with the indoor color guard unit, which gave me my skills with pole flag, spin flag and rifle.  I received my Bachelor of Arts degree in Music from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2012.  I am able to offer my input on artistic nuance and performance, instruction, and music analysis.

My dance career paused after high school in 2008, and I struggled to find a fitness lifestyle in which I could be passionate.  In February 2014, Pole dance & fitness found me.  I took a class with my friend Victoria and I was hooked within 20 minutes.  No less than a month passed before I purchased my own pole and started training on a daily basis.  Pole dance & fitness, and other mediums like Lyra and Silks, has given me a platform to which I can bring my varied skills and life experience to the stage.

I work Front Desk at Summerlin and attend PFS classes regularly.

Waking up is a blessing; it gives me a daily opportunity to be the best version of myself that I’ve ever been.

What is your proudest teaching or performing moment?

I love when I get to see a colleague or new student give themselves permission to learn and do the things they “could never do.”  One time, I was working with a woman who had a fear of handstands, and she wanted to conquer this fear.  I suggested Forearm Stands as a modification.  We discussed the proper form, and suddenly she was upside-down, feet on the wall and shouting in joy— “I GOT IT!”  She took a rest and said “I couldn’t understand forearm stands before; but, I got it with how you showed me!”  Those are the moments that I’m the proudest.

What pole move(s) are your favorite?
I love spins and playing with momentum on static pole (making it look like the pole is spinning) and strong, opened-body poses on spin pole.  I have a gender-fluid style and approach to pole dance and floor work.  I draw inspiration and ideas from all over the human spectrum.

Describe yourself in three words:
Dynamic, Fearless, Supportive

Why do you enjoy working at Pole Fitness Studio?
From the very start, I felt I could be every part of myself when I was in a PFS class.  When I’m at the studio, I know I am in an environment that wants to see me succeed.  I am very blessed to have the opportunities, instruction and family that I do with PFS.

Tara Starr

Levels 1-4

TV Host and Pageant queen Tara Starr was born in Palo Alto, CA, and raised in the beautiful city of Manila, Philippines. A Vegas resident since August 2011, she discovered the art of pole through Cirque du Soleil’s “Michael Jackson: Immortal” show. “I saw that girl on the pole and asked myself: “What the hell am I doing with my life?”

Certified in Pole Levels 1 - 4 under Fawnia’s Pole Dance Instructor Certification Program (PDIC), Tara has an extensive background in performing arts and modern dance. Taking Fawnia’s program was a once-in-a-lifetime experience that proved highly educational and essential in teaching her all there is to know about the proper form, techniques, and safety measures involved in sharing her love of pole.

Tara’s strength as an instructor lies in her enthusiasm and flexibility. Currently competing for the Miss Nevada United States 2013 state title, Tara Starr a.k.a. Miss Paradise 2013’s platform is to encourage a healthy self-esteem and self-confidence amongst our youth. She translates this philosophy into her teaching style. Tara’s main goal as an instructor is to help her students with their self-esteem and confidence, encouraging them to let out the inner diva that lies in each and every one of us.

What is your proudest teaching or performing moment?
“In terms of pole? I would have to say that my proudest moment was this one time when I randomly worked the pole at XS while clubbing and these guys threw 5 dollar bills at me. I felt like a legitimate pole dancer then. Hahaha! Like, “Gee, Thanks! You guys really appreciate me!”

What pole move(s) are your favorite?
“Hmm...sounds like a hard one but I would have to say anything that involves doing the splits---pyramid, drop splits from the top of the pole, anything that requires me to spread it. Hahaha! Kidding. Oh and the pinwheel because it’s pretty, and Superman because flying is fun!!!”

Describe yourself in three words:
Goddess, Diva, Comedian

Why do you enjoy teaching at Pole Fitness Studio?
“Apart from the fact that everyone at PFS is like family to me, I enjoy inspiring people to let go of whatever hang-ups they may have about themselves and their bodies, and teaching them to love and accept themselves for the infinite beings that they truly are :)”
